How's Mom doing? by Leah Jean
|For those of you who do not know, my mother collapsed Thursday night and was taken to the emergency room (with Dad and Henry in attendance) at around 2:00 in the morning. She under went emergency surgery later that day because (from what I've gotten 2nd hand from my sister) her Glucose was "off the charts" and her white blood cell count indicated that something was very wrong. [Mom had not been eating for a few days and not feeling good also.]
During surgery they removed 2 or more "growths" (I have no more details on what kind) from her colon (large intestines). Apparently there wasn't much left of the colon by the time they were finished so they just totally removed it. The doctor said that she held up very well during surgery and her prognosis is good. Last I heard (yesterday evening) was that they were keeping her sedated and she was only awakening every once-in-a-while and not being very coherent. She will probably be in the hospital for several days recovering.
I do know that Sandy has been in contact with my sister Cindy about what's going on. So if you have any questions, you can contact her. Or you can get Cindy's (or maybe Henry's) phone number ... or for that matter, my Dad's phone number from Sandy if you want my details or wish to send your love. [For obvious reasons I don't wish to put specific phone numbers onto a web site.] I will probably be flying home today or tomorrow. I am not a great source of up-to-the-minute info since I'm getting everything in bits and pieces usually thru Cindy. By the way, Cindy, Henry, and Dad are in good spirits and finding humor in various ways. [Cindy said that Mom's surgeon was a real cutie!] That's my sister! :)
Love to all,
