A weird year by Leah Jean
|So far this has been rather weird year what with the winter and spring weather being rather extreme. Well, weather isn't the only thing weird.
I was up in the middle of the night ... as usual (not a very sound sleeper) ... and watching T.V. Starting hearing a rumbling noise that sounded like an exceptionally large truck or airplane going by. By it was strange because the noise was louder than usual and kept going for about 15-20 seconds. Enough time for me to react by turning the volume off on the T.V. and even going to the window. I didn't really expect to see anything though because the sound was rather strange; I couldn't get a direction on it. Usually when a plane or truck goes by you can hear the sound's volume increase and decrease and the tone change. But this rumbling did neither. And it was louder than usual and lasted quite a bit longer then the normal vehicle or plane going by. I went back to bed shortly there after though and forgot about it. The next day I heard a few people at work talking about a loud rumbling noise. I quickly stuck my face into the conversation and found out that an earthquake had happened! Apparently it was too far away to feel any shaking though. But I definitely tuned into the local news that evening to get the details. We do have periodic small earthquakes around the region. But this is the first time I have ever experienced such a thing. It was rated 3.6 on the Richter Scale. I was talking to my landscaper about it though and he just shrugged it off like it was no big deal. He said that he used to live in southern California where those things were very common place.
Well, at least I now know what it sounds like now. Can't wait to see what else occurs this year. Don't even want to think about it. ;)
